Carers Support Program

The Maroondah Toy Library Carers Support Program is open to all types of unpaid carers, including parents and grandparents of children with a disability or additional needs.

We provides carers and their families a range of support services to make our toy library an accessible, affordable and easy community program. We are here to help you borrow therapy toys and educational support items, meet people in your community and make social connections, as well as help you find other supports services for your family. Our program is designed to be flexible to your needs and simply help make life a little easier for our carers.

Come and try out the toy library service for free. That's right, as a new member to Maroondah Toy Library, all carers will be eligible to receive a FREE 3 month membership*. Our carers membership allows you to take home up to 8 toys at a time, has no volunteering requirements, and allows you to borrow from the library during our full range of opening hours. You can visit our standard borrowing sessions, have your toys delivered to your home^ or book a 1 on 1 session at the library at a time that suits you. After the initial trial period, we then offer all carers a 20% discount on all our membership options.

Carers Toy Delivery Service

At MTL, we understand that sometimes life gets tricky, and getting to the library to borrow and return your toys can be overwhelming. Our Carers Toy Delivery Service means we can deliver and pick up toys to and from your home as part of our support program. For families that live within a 15km drive of the toy library, we can deliver every 3-4 weeks for families that live within a 15km radius of the library (with extended toy due dates). You are able to select toys by creating a list of favourites using your member login, or we can customise a mystery box to meet your needs.

1 on 1 In-Session Support

Our 1 on 1 in-session support is great for families who have children who are easily overwhelmed in certain environments, or need the space to test the toys out before you take them home. One of our staff members will be with you the whole time to assist you with returning, selecting and borrowing new toys.

SUPPORT IN SESSION

If you are coming in to a standard borrowing session time, you can also get additional assistance. This can include helping you select toys for your needs and helping you carry toys to the car. Just let us know what we can do to make your time with us easier, and we can organise for additional staff or volunteers to be available when you visit. Please send us an email to let us know when you are planning on attending, and what type of assistance you might require.

PHONE, ONLINE & VIDEO SUPPORT

We can organise a phone call or online video chat to chat to help you out.

You are able to book a time with one of our Carers Program support staff who are able to help teach you how to use our member login system, or chat with you about what toys are best for your families needs. They can help explain more about how our program works and answer any questions you have. They are also able to let you know what other community supports exist in the local area for carers, and families with children with a disability or additional needs.

FLEXIBLE DUTY OPTIONS

For our carers who are on a membership that requires volunteer duty to be completed, an individual 1 on 1 Duty plan is an option.
